international hotel experience. Mr Cauchi most recently spent the past
three years in Lisbon, Portugal, with responsibilities for a number
of properties located within the Iberian Peninsula for an International
Hotel Chain. Mr Cauchi has also held a number of senior management roles
within Sales and Marketing, Food and Beverage and also Rooms Division
within a number of prestigious properties in Malta.
Another new member of the Executive Team shall be Michael Camilleri
Kamsky, who shall take the position of Director of Sales and Marketing
as from 1 October. The Sales and Marketing responsibilities for the
Westin were previously managed by Ian Ciappara in his capacity as Area
Director of Sales of Marketing for Costa Smeralda and Malta and was
located at the Starwood Regional offices in Porto Cervo, Sardegna. Mr
Ciappara has since been promoted to Director of Event Marketing for
Italy and Malta and is now stationed at the Starwood and Ciga regional
Headquarters in Rome. Mr Camilleri Kamsky with over 28 years of experience
within various sectors of the industry is highly qualified to take on
the challenges of such a position.
"We have sought to tap one of the most highly qualified and experienced
management teams the industry has to offer. We are committed to the
destination and to Peninsula Investments, the owning company of the
Westin Dragonara, to continue to grow the Hotels market share
both domestically and within its more international competitive
set. Over the past four years under Mr. Correzzolas leadership,
The Westin Dragonara Malta management team has worked together and competed
very successfully in a dynamic & extremely challenging environment"
commented Stephen Alden Vice President, Director of Operations for Italy
and Malta for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
"One must keep in mind that there exist very few places in the
Mediterranean where the five star bed stock increased so rapidly over
such a short period of time, and managing a hotel of the proportions
of The Westin Dragonara in this environment is a challenge that the
Hotels Executive Team has been dealing with very effectively."
Continued Stephen Alden. "The combination of Hans Cauchis
international outlook, together with a clear understanding of the Maltese
culture, is, we feel, the right formula to take The Westin Dragonara
to the next stage in the Hotels progression while Michael Camilleri
Kamskys wealth of experience and knowledge of the tourism industry
in general shall be an asset to the already strong and dynamic sales
team at The Westin, currently headed by John Dandria, Director of Sales".
The Westin Dragonara resort is in its sixth year of operation and employs
over 300 full time employees and an additional 100 part timers during
the high season summer months. It plays a leading role within Maltas
tourism industry and has been on the forefront as regards to promoting
Malta as a five star destination.
