Retail Price Index jumps by 0.32 points The Retail Price Index jumped by 2.18 points to 112.80 in September according to figures issued by the Central Office of Statistics. The COS said that the rate of inflation in September stood at 2.67 per cent. The sections monitored for index purposes include food, durable household goods, personal care and health, among other goods and services. The food items index rose by 0.97 points, or 0.88 percent, over figures for the previous month. Price increases were recorded for fresh meat, chicken and rabbit, frozen meat, bacon ham and tinned meat, preserved fish, cheese, milk, potatoes, fresh fruits, sugar and tea in bags. Price drops were registered in fresh fish. The Durable Household Goods Index, grew by 0.20 points or 0.19 per cent. The COS added that the increase in this section was due to higher average prices for furniture and hardware, crockery and cutlery items. The Personal Health and Care index went up by 0.34 points (0.29 per cent), with higher average prices being recorded in respect of toilet requisites, cosmetics, hairdressing and shaving items and eye-sight aids. The 0.61 points (0.58 per cent) increase in the Other Goods and Services index, was due to higher average prices for clocks, watches and jewellery, cleaning materials and pet products. | ||||||||
