The first Agile Software Development Gathering that was held in Malta on 19 February 2008, had more interest than the organisers expected. In the following months, Agile Malta received a number of questions and based on their feedback, the committee has planned a second Gathering due to take place on 5 December 2008.
The first conference was attended by 45 attendees from various Maltese companies. It was made up of an interesting mix of attendees. Some had Agile experience and some others just wanted to find out what Agile techniques were all about.
Considering the mixed audience, the programme included real life experiences of Agile implementations in various local companies including: 6pm, Crimson Wing and ETC, technical talks for more advanced users, an introduction to Scrum, a talk about Simplicity as well as an interesting key note from Boris Gloger, who talked about the way that Scrum can change enterprises.
The audience was very happy to be able to share experiences and some didn’t even know that there were any practitioners in Malta. It was a great opportunity for them to share ideas. The attendees who had never experienced Agile were very impressed by the easy Agile concepts which can most of the time guarantee a successful project.
The keynote speaker for the second conference will be Joachim Ohlrogge, a Swedish Agile expert. Sweden is one of the most advanced countries in Agile adoption and this is easily reflected by the fact that the last Scrum Gathering was held in Stockholm.
The conference is mainly aimed at technical and managerial positions and the main focus is delivering business value, which we believe is important to be understood by all personnel at every level.
