Lufthansa includes Malta as ‘Sunshine Ticket’ destination
German carrier Lufthansa has included Malta in its “Sunshine Ticket” scheme that guarantees a €20 per day compensation for German travellers who select a summer destination and don’t find the sun.
The offer is covered under the ‘Sunshine Insurance’ policy for holidays booked by German travellers to Malta, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Barcelona, Bastia, Bilbao, Bologna, Boston, Casablanca, Cairo, Chicago, Dubai, Faro, Florence, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Lisbon, Los Angeles, Madrid, Malaga, Marseilles, New York, Nice, Palma, Philadelphia, Porto, Rome, San Francisco, Split, Tel Aviv, Tunis, Valencia, Venice, Verona, Washington and Zagreb
If it rains, Lufthansa is guaranteeing a payment of €20 in compensation for the lost sun.
The innovative scheme is open for bookings to these destinations from September 1 to the end of October.
The maximum compensation per passenger is €200.
A day is deemed to be “rainy” if precipitation of at least 5 mm/m2 is documented on wetteronline.de for the destination.
The insurance cover takes effect on the day of arrival if the traveller arrives at the destination before 4 pm.
If the traveller reaches his destination after 4 pm, the insurance cover starts the following day at midnight. The insurance cover ends on the day of departure, assuming that the traveller departs after 2 pm. If the flight takes off earlier than that, the insurance cover will end at midnight on the day of departure.
To obtain compensation for rainy days travellers are asked send their travel voucher, boarding passes for both outbound and inbound flights and a list of the rainy days to the insurer up to four weeks from return.
