10.10.10 date set for SmartCity Malta debut

SmartCity Malta’s first office block will be concluded at the end of July and officially inaugurated on October 10, CEO Fareed Abdulrahman announced yesterday.
Speaking during an official visit to the site by Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt, the SmartCity Malta CEO said that the inauguration would coincide with the 10th anniversary of Dubai Internet City.
Asked when the first tenants were expected to start operating from within the block, Fareed Abdulrahman said he was envisaging companies to start operating as from mid-September. Although a number of local and international high-profile firms have been speculated to be among the first tenants, Abdulrahman refused to divulge any names.
He commented that an intensive marketing drive was continuing in several countries including Japan, Korea, Egypt and China.
The SamrtCity Malta CEO explained how works on the site were continuing at a fast pace, with a large part of the vast space being levelled in preparation for the construction of other blocks.
Addressing the media, Minister Austin Gatt expressed government’s satisfaction at the news about the projected completion of the first block by the end of July, “a target that means Smart City had delivered on its commitment one year four months in advance.”
