Opposition Leader presented with Principles of Maltese Taxation publication

The Malta Institute of Management (MIM) met up with Opposition Leader, Hon Dr Joseph Muscat, to present a copy of Dr Robert Attard’s Principles of Maltese Taxation.
MIM Chairperson Reuben Buttigieg explained the contribution that MIM has made in placing Malta’s Taxation on the International Tax Map. Mr Buttigieg, who has headed the whole project, said that this is only the first step in the MIM’s project in Financial Services. The book also serves as a text book for students on the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation Malta Variant. The book has so far had a tremendous success with various practitioners and academics referring to it on a day to day basis. The book attracted also an amount of international sales particularly from commonwealth countries.
During the meeting, the importance of Islamic Finance for the Financial Industry in Malta was discussed. Hon Dr Muscat said that Malta has a big opportunity ahead of it. MIM has spearheaded the discussion in Islamic Finance in Malta and the Labour Party has supported it throughout. Reuben Buttigieg explained how Malta can be marketed as an Islamic Finance centre through the direct intervention of Government through the issuance of Sukuk.
The current economic situation was also discussed. Hon Dr Muscat said that MIM and similar organizations had a lot to contribute in the reviving of the economic situation. He encouraged MIM to instil collaboration even further in order to achieve the desired results. Hon Dr. Muscat was referring to the various activities that MIM did in collaboration with other organizations such as the GWU the MUBE, the MEA, the GRTU and the IFSP.
