Outbound travel increases

A study published by the NSO last Friday revealed that during January of this year, outbound tourism in Malta increased by 1,356 when compared to the same month last year.
Air travel registered an increase of 8.3 per cent, while sea travel registered an indicative drop of almost 40 per cent – from 488 passengers last year, to 288 this year.
Whereas travelers to the UK increased by 1,249 this year, outbound travel to Italy took a dip by 382 passengers.
Also, in the month under review, travel to non-EU countries increased from 14.6 per cent last year to 15.2 per cent this year. Travel to EU countries however, registered a slight drop from 85.4 per cent last year, to 84.8 per cent this year.
Of every 100 trips made by Maltese passengers, 50 were made by persons aged between 24 and 44. Another 40.9 per cent were made by Maltese passengers in the 45-64 age bracket.
