MP calls for changes to VAT law as 106 are sent to prison

A total of 106 persons have been imprisoned for breaking the VAT law since 2004. The statistic was revealed in parliament yesterday by Justice and Home affairs minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici when answering a question put to him by Labour MP Josè Herrera who later commented with MaltaToday that the figure clearly shows that government “must intervene legislatively.>>

Middlesea divorces its Italian lover
It is a mystery how very little has been written by financial commentators on the spectacular loss suffered by local insurance flagship Middlesea (MSI) last December. Reading the chairman’s report presented by Joe FX Zahra who replaced Mario C Grech, he explains little what went so wrong after acquiring the Italian subsidiary in 2000 through the Spanish shareholder Mapfre Internacional.>>
